This weekend we visited Joshua Tree. We started off with a sunrise hike at Panorama Loop just outside the park. There were fantastic views of Mt San Jacinto from the top and of course incredible Joshua Trees along the way. We also got to see a Gambel’s quail. The funny little feather on its head jiggled like crazy every time it called.

Then at breakfast we got to see a roadrunner up close and personal. He was lured to the patio by a tasty little meatball.

After breakfast we headed to the Hall of Horrors. You can crawl right up into that pile of boulders!

Then we stopped by the lookout at Keys View for another look at Mt San Jacinto and a panoramic view of the Indio Valley. We did one last hike in that area up to the old Lost Horse Mine. We saw a couple of Chukar birds too which apparently are a rare sighting!

We packed in a lot but it’s a good thing we did. We had to cut the trip short by one night because while we were out hiking the wind destroyed our tent and nearly blew it away. We’ll need some new poles and hopefully we can patch it up for our upcoming trips this summer. The desert doesn’t mess around but what a beautiful place!
