This weekend was MotoGP race weekend at Circuit of the Americas. Chris’s brother came down from Michigan for the races but I got to see the practice rounds on Friday. It was very cool to tour around COTA and see some custom bikes at the handmade bike exhibit.

While the boys were at the races, I went to the Bullock Texas State History Museum. It was very interesting to learn about Texas history but the coolest exhibit was a bit older than the state: the 1686 French colonialist shipwreck La Belle. They made it all the way across the Atlantic in that boat before it sank in Matagorda Bay.

A couple of the more kitschy exhibits were also total gems. The original design of the Buc-ee’s mascot and a brick from the first Buc-ee’s.

And a wall of old Texas post cards. It was fun to see historical snapshots from a couple of places we’ve visited recently. Also one upcoming stop that we’ve got planned as we head up to Colorado and Wyoming at the end of April.

Amarillo’s on my mind… only a few weeks left here in Austin!
