Last hurrahs in New Mexico

Our last weekend in New Mexico got off to a great start with a visit from my dad and Karen. They are the first to visit us in two different states: Montana and New Mexico!

We also crossed a few more things off our New Mexico bucket list. On Saturday we hiked along the Glorieta Pass Battlefield Trail which is right near our Airbnb and marks one of the most important Civil War battles west of the Mississippi.

Confederate troops from Texas were attacking Union forts along the Santa Fe trail in attempt to secure access to resources in California and Colorado. The Union army held them off here at Glorieta pass. More importantly, a sneak attack from over the top of Glorieta mesa destroyed all of the Texans supplies, forcing them to retreat all the way back to Texas. After the hike, we headed over the pass to pay a visit to the historic Legal Tender Saloon in nearby Lamy, established in 1881 and still serving delicious food and drink.

Finally we visited the original Meow Wolf in Santa Fe.

We’re going to miss New Mexico but excited to head to San Diego next weekend!
