Hiking, Skiing and Art

We took advantage of the long weekend to see more of the sights around Glorieta, starting with a visit to the Pecos National Historical Park to visit the ruins of the Pecos Pueblo. There are still remains of the original village which was a major trading hub for Pecos, Apache, Comanche and Navajo tribes. These ruins were once adobe dwellings four to five stories high.

There is also a replica of a kiva, a circular underground room used ceremonial purposes, that we were able to enter.

The remains of two Spanish churches are also in the park: a larger church that was torn down in the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 and a smaller church built in 1717.

On Sunday we took a trip to nearby Sipapu Ski Resort. The weather wasn’t as nice but the snow was good and we upped our game to tackle some of the blue runs. There were some beautiful views on the way there and back too!

We finished up the weekend with a visit to the Georgia O’Keefe museum in Santa Fe. It was very cool to see so much of her art as well as her art supplies, clothing, cookbooks and hand written recipes. I didn’t know that she was also a passionate home cook and gardener. I wish I had taken more photos!

  1. Well done. You packed a lot into the weekend. Beautiful shots. And climbed inside a kiva. How cool!
