We have been loving Superior and exploring the west side of Montana. Our first week it was a bit cold and rainy but it was great to have a visit from my Dad and Karen. Thanks to Karen for planning a joint birthday celebration visit for me and my dad!

We finally got some better weather in our second week and went on beautiful hikes almost every day. First the Superior Vista Trail overlooking the city.

Next up the Cascade Falls Overlook trail.

We also climbed up to the decommissioned fire tower at the top of Williams Peak.

Then we drove over the border into Idaho for a really cool hike at the Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. We didn’t get any photos of the most picturesque pool with a waterfall because it had been taken over by nudists!

We also had some great BBQ in Missoula afterwards at the Notorioius P.I.G. Then went to see the Duelin’ Missoulan piano players. The Gen Z player Kyle did some rousing 90s tunes including Stacy’s Mom even though he “wasn’t born yet when that song came out” – a stab directly to my elder millenial heart! We only got to hear one of our Billy Joel requests from Gen X player Dr. Doug because he forgot to turn on his Venmo notifications for incoming requests until halfway through the set. It was all highly entertaining! I would recommend a visit to the Stave & Hoop Speakeasy to anyone visiting Missoula.
We finished up the weekend with a very cool hike up to the Heart and Pearl lakes where we finally got to see some mountain goats! They were just little white specks on the mountainside but we got a closer look with the help of some borrowed binoculars. Thanks, Dad!
