We took a quick trip to Helena this weekend to celebrate my birthday. To kick things off on Friday though, Chris ordered Lombardi’s pizza all the way from NY and a key lime pie from they keys! He also flew in bagels and we made bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches just like the ones we’ve been missing since we left the city. Best birthday ever! No pizza pics because I couldn’t wait to eat it.

To work off all those carbs we stopped for a hike on the way to Helena overlooking Holter Lake.

We stayed in downtown Helena and got to see a little bit of the old city in Reeder’s Alley at the base of Mt Helena. It’s the oldest intact piece of Helena and was originally built in the 1870’s when the area was known as Last Change Gulch.

We celebrated that night with a ton of pasta and wine but made up for it the next day with a very cool hike up to the top of Mt Helena. It was a tough one. Pretty much straight up for 1,000 feet, but worth it for the 360 degree views of the city and surrounding mountains from the top. There was also a cool little cave about half way up!

It was a great birthday weekend! My tired legs are definitely feeling all 40 years tonight, but I’m also feeling very loved and very lucky to be on this adventure with such a great partner up for anything.
