This weekend we went on a really cool hike up to Willow Creek falls. The trail goes along the side of a canyon up and over large lower falls, smaller upper falls and finally some mini falls that we were able to hike down to. Then it winds into a valley with some beautiful red rock formations.

There was a nice view on the way back too. We also came across quite a few cows and lots of cow patties.

After the hike we swung by the Gibson Dam and Reservoir and saw a couple of eagles from the dam overlook.

The next day we visited the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, a museum covering the entire expedition from the preparations that started in Philadelphia, to the Corp of Discovery’s travels all the way to Cape Disappointment on the Pacific Ocean and back again. The museum included replicas of their equipment, tons of journal excerpts and exhibits about the culture and languages of the Native American tribes that the group encountered and received assistance from on their journey. It’s a very cool museum and per the usual I did not take enough pictures!

We also did one more hike along the south shore of the Missouri River and got a great view of the Rainbow Dam, another hydroelectric project that takes advantage of the natural falls near the city.

Another great weekend in Great Falls!
